Fasanara Capital Continues Expansion of Quant Division with Appointment of Dr Darran Specter
12 August 2026

London, 12 August 2026 – Fasanara Capital (“Fasanara”), the technology-driven global asset manager with $6 billion in assets under management, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Darran Specter, CFA, as Head of Quant Equity.
Based in London, Specter will work closely with Vinicius Karam, Managing Director and Head of Fasanara Quant, on the continued development of the firm's multi-manager quantitative investment platform, Open Quant. His role will have a particular focus on identifying and evaluating emerging external equity quantitative managers globally, alongside overall portfolio construction and investment process.
The appointment forms part of Fasanara's continued investment in its quantitative capabilities as the firm expands its technology, research and investment infrastructure and further develops its global network of quantitative investment managers.
Dr Specter brings more than 20 years of experience across quantitative investing, portfolio construction, risk management and hedge fund manager selection. He joins Fasanara following two years at Brevan Howard, where he served as Senior Portfolio Strategist and developed frameworks supporting portfolio manager evaluation and capital allocation.
On his appointment, Specter said: “I am delighted to be joining Fasanara at an exciting stage in the development of its multi-manager platform. I look forward to working closely with the Quant team as we continue to develop the platform, deepen our manager network and identify emerging quantitative talent globally.”
Prior to Brevan Howard, Dr Specter spent more than 11 years at the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (“ADIA”), where he was a Portfolio Manager. During his time at ADIA, he was responsible for managing multi-billion-dollar allocations to systematic hedge fund strategies.
Earlier in his career, Dr Specter was Investment Manager and Head of Quantitative Investment Research at Cardano, and also served as a Senior Quantitative & Risk Analyst at NewFinance, which was acquired by Schroders in 2006. He holds both a PhD and a First Class MEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Imperial College London and is a CFA Charterholder.
Karam said: “Darran brings an exceptional combination of quantitative expertise and institutional experience across manager evaluation, portfolio construction and capital allocation. Having spent much of his career assessing quantitative investment talent and managing significant allocations on behalf of sophisticated institutions, his experience will add further depth to our investment process.”
